Two Cases of Torsion of the Gallbadder

Abstract
Torsion of the gallbladder is a rare disorder that requires for its occurrence an unusal anatomic relationship between the gallbladder and liver. It is an acute surgical condition which usually results in death unless cholecystectomy is performed promptly. Since Wendel¢¥s original report in 1898, approximately 200 cases have been reported from Western literature and about 38 cases reported from Japanese literature.
Two cases of torsion of the gallbladder treated surgically in the past two years (1966-1967) at surgical Department, St. Benedict Hospital are reported.
The mechanism of the gallbladder and its clinical symptomatology are discussed with a limited review of the literature on this subject.
